Alumacraft boats are one of the oldest boats around. Spanning more than one hundred years of history, Alumacraft traces its roots in 1893 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Back then, German-born blacksmith Eugene Tetzlaff opened what would later become the Flour City Ornamental Iron Company.

The small business prospered and managed to survive many challenging times in world history including the first World War and the Great Depression. During World War II, the iron company was pushed into service manufacturing bridge pontoons and aircraft parts for the U.S. military as part of American effort in the war.

After the war, Flour City had a surplus of aluminum and a staff of skilled metalworkers.
Thus, was born the idea to produce watercrafts made of aluminum. It was then considered a novel idea because heavy, cedar strip rowboats were the vogue at that time.

In 1946, the first Alumacraft boat was formed. It was a simple 12-foot rowboat but the industry’s first example of stretch-formed aluminum construction. Alumacraft boats became popular after that. It was a major player throughout the forties and the fifties as the company further stretched its line of aluminum boats to include canoes and duckboats.

Alumacraft continued its innovations in the following decades with new lines and models. In the late ’80s, the company specialized in fishing boats with the introduction of the Deep V Phantom, the Competitor and the Dominator, all equipped with the latest fishing accessories, such as aerated livewells and lockable rod storage.

When Alumacraft marked its 50th anniversary in 1996, it came out with the revolutionary 2XB hull, the most durable aluminum hull in history. Alumacraft is still a formidable name in the boating industry to this day. The company builds more than 80 different models of specialty fishing boats, supplying markets worldwide.
