Starcraft Boats PDF Print E-mail
With more than 100 years in the boat business, Starcraft boats surely have a lot to offer to the boating public. Founded in 1903, this Indiana-based builder has at least 13 deck boat models and 30 pontoon boats on its fleet. From fishing boats to sporty runabouts to luxury pontoons, Starcraft has something to offer.

Starcraft prides itself for gracefully surviving several generations in the boating industry and being a pioneer in promoting the boating lifestyle. Starcraft boats are known for their versatility, affordability, style, and safety features.

As expected of companies with a long history, Starcraft had experienced several changes in management from the time its founder Arthur Schrock and his son Harold started the marine business. The company initially specialized in aluminum runabouts and fishing boats then ventured into the fiberglass market.

In 1969, Harold sold the family business to major conglomerate Bangor Punta but their control of the firm did not last long when the energy crisis in the seventies hit the sales of campers, RVs and large glass boats. Lear Seigler took over Starcraft but it was purchased again in the late 80s by the Brunswick group of companies. At the time, Starcraft was manufacturing aluminum fishing boats, runabouts, pontoons, and fiberglass products.

In another turn of events, Brunswick divested of Starcraft in 1996 and this heralded the return of the company to its original roots. Harold's son, Doug Shrock headed a group of investors and purchased Starcraft to reestablish the once thriving family business.

After refocusing and downsizing the business, Starcraft worked on developing a quality line of aluminum fishing boats. When Starcraft marked its centennial year in 2003, it introduced the C-Star line of products featuring innovative seating and colorful new graphics. The boating circle was definitely abuzz with the awakening of a sleeping giant.

As it moves on, Starcraft continues to pursue innovation in boat building while at the same time keeping its tradition for excellence and high quality. It is boosting its product lines with deck boats that offer impressive construction features. These include the use of injected foam between the hull and the deck as well as the filling of air pockets to prevent water from leaking. Such methods increase hull strength and reduce noise and vibration. Starcraft have also installed mildew-resistant carpeting for under-seat and floor storage compartments.

Deck boats also come with more features that enhance the comfort of its users including  a transom shower with faucet control, on-demand pressurized sink and a large change room with a Porta Pottie.

For pontoons, Starcraft uses the Z-bar cross member design, which has LockOut sealant tape added and is through bolted to the 7-ply pressure-treated plywood. The comfort and value of the pontoon line is also enhanced with improved furniture, foam and vinyl construction. Pontoons come in three series, the Starfish, targeted for the fisherman; the Stardeck, which is Starcraft’s best family value and the Elite series for its luxury offering.

Starcraft Aurora 2210 OB
Sometimes simple is the greatest compliment that we can give to a deck boat. This statement couldn’t be truer than with the Starcraft Aurora 2210. Effortless colors, low profile, sleek design and mold contours create a simple, yet classy design.

Starcraft Elite 246 RE
Comfy. Plush. Cushy. Starcraft’s Elite 246 looked so comfortable that we just couldn’t wait to sit back and relax in the cozy looking furniture.

Starcraft 226 Elite RE
We tested the 226 Elite in the traditional pontoon method — that is, with hands alternating between the wheel, the throttle and the peanut can. With a 115-hp Mercury 4-stroke providing the power, the result is first-class leisure. At 20 mph guests up front could actually use the removable cocktail table and carry on a conversation with the captain over the light hum of 78 decibels recorded at the helm. That, folks, is pontoon cruising.
