Sylvan pontoon boats are popular among many households in America. Tracing its roots in the late 1940s in a rural town in Indiana, Sylvan Marine has been in the pontoon business for around 50 years. The Sylvan name is in fact considered synonymous to luxury and value when it comes to fishing and recreational boats. Sylvan offers a complete line of pontoon boats. With sizes ranging from 16 to 26 feet in length, Sylvan provides models for fishing, cruising or both. Most boats come with standard extra wide 102-inch beams and large 25-inch diameter tubes. The cruising models feature plush, wrap-around lounge seating areas while the fishing models have smart-fishing amenities. These include rod racks, lowered height bow and stern rails, built-in livewells, lockable rod storage and comfort-fit bass seats. Each Sylvan pontoon boat comes with a lifetime warranty on deck, tubes and transom. Aside from pontoon boats, Sylvan also has an array of deck boats. Sylvan also produces the Space Deck line of pontoon/deck boat hybrids as well. Sylvan hybrids offer pretty much the same standard features found on its pontoons models with the high-speed performance and handling of a deck boat hull. Sylvan traces its roots in Wolcottville, a rural town in Indiana. It first operated in the late 1940s under the name Sylvan Industries as builder of pontoon boats and small house boats. It most likely derived its name from nearby Sylvan Lake where the company’s plant was located. In 1965, its founder John Cripe sold the business to John Graff who renamed the company to Sylvan Marine. Under Graff’s leadership, Sylvan Marine continued to improve the style and manufacturing processes of its boats. In the early 1970s, Sylvan Marine's ownership was again changed when John Graff sold the business to his father-in-law Harold Schrock. Sylvan started to produce aluminum fishing boats and runabouts to extend their line of pontoon boats in 1975. Sylvan Marine continued to pursue more innovations over the years, which made the company one of the leaders in the boating industry. Sylvan boats are now manufactured in the company’s main complex in New Paris, Indiana. The 1900 SD has a handsome list of standard features without a bunch of frills that would be overkill for a boat this size. And even though we found some areas where there could have been a finer finish and more attention to detail, the 1900 SD’s affordable bottom line more than makes up for it.
