Over two thousand of the world’s leading marine industry manufacturers display their newest wares at the Miami boat show. Officially known as the Miami International Boat Show, the exhibit area spans more than 2.5 million square feet. It is the perfect venue to see the latest powerboats, engines and boating accessories. Coinciding with the boat show, is Strictly Sail-Miami 9, a portion of the Miami Boat Show that is strictly dedicated to sailing. The in-water sail-only exhibition is already a crowd-drawer in itself. This five-day event with international flavor features the newest and best in mono- and multi-hull sailboats from manufactures around the world, as well as the latest accessories, sailing gear and charter information from more than 200 exhibitors. To spruce up the boat show and make it more comfortable for visitors, there are hundreds of restaurants, retail stores and activities for sailors and landlubbers of all ages. One of the most anticipated events at the Miami International Boat show is the Big Game Room. The BGR fishing expo is an annual gathering for fishing enthusiasts. It features celebrity anglers, tournament organizers, boat manufacturers, blue-water tackle manufacturers, conservation groups, artists and representatives from various resorts and fishing destinations from all over the world. The BGR also provides many wonderful amenities and educational activities for all guests. These include a bar for entertainment and networking, free virtual billfish tournament, seminar rooms, workshops, nautical fashion shows, among others. The latest fishing gadgets and accessories are also on display in the BGR’s flat rooms. The Miami International Boat Show is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the principal trade association of the recreational marine industry. NMMA members, over 1,500 companies, produce approximately 80 percent of the marine products used by recreational boaters and anglers in the United States. The North American pleasure boat market represents fully half of the global demand for these products and services. Retail sales of boats and related products and services amount to an estimated $25 billion annually in the United States.
