A pontoon house boat is the perfect place to enjoy the pleasure of water activities while in the company of close family and friends. Because its flat floor allows free movement and offers larger space, pontoon boats make ideal house boats for short vacations on water.

Just add a camper top to cover the whole boat, a few amenities like a sofa bed, table, and storage compartments – and the pontoon boat can easily turn into a comfortable house boat. With the bare necessities available inside the pontoon boat, enjoying the waters becomes doubly pleasurable.

Basically, a house boat is a motorized craft on which you can live or recreate. Most come fully equipped with amenities such as full kitchens, bedrooms, fully operational bathrooms, television, dining areas and hot tubs – much like what you would get in condominiums or hotel rooms. But the big difference is the ever changing scenery when you look out of your window. Picturesque sunsets, scenic landscapes, green trees, and amazing lake views are just about a few that you can expect. A pontoon house boat is indeed a perfect family vacation vessel.

When you want a different surrounding or planning to do another activity, all you have to do is move to a different location. It is a good thing that there are many locations in the United States and even outside that rents out house boats. House boat rentals offer an opportunity to experience the unique vacation lifestyle of houseboating minus the big upfront investment of owning a boat. For those planning to turn their pontoon boats into a pontoon house boat, renting is a good way to experience it first and get ideas along the way.

Your pontoon house boat may also be used at home base for other water activities such as fishing, waterskiing, diving, and lake explorations.

There are three types of houseboats—fiberglass, pontoon and custom. Owing to its popularity, there are many pontoon boats that are being used as house boats. Measuring in length from 30 feet to 120 feet and widths ranging from 8 feet to 22 feet, house boats can be powered by single or dual outboards.

There are over 300 locations in the US and Canada  where you can rent house boats. Known as the houseboating capital of the world, Kentucky hosts probably the most number of house boats in the world. Particularly, Lake Cumberland in Kentucky boasts of numerous houseboat rentals. Other lakes with many houseboats can be found in nearby lakes such as Dale Hollow and Center Hill lakes in Tennessee, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in Kentucky, Lake Lanier and Lake Altoona in Georgia. In the western U.S. Lake Powell in Utah is home to many house boats. Outside of the U.S. and Canada, Australia has the highest number of houseboats. Africa, Europe and India have their fair share of house boats.
