The pilothouse, sometimes referred to as the "bridge" or "lower helm station", is generally placed on the main deck, "flush" (on the same level) with the main salon. It could sleep four to eight passengers and crew. Bigger yachts can even take as much as twelve people.
Usual size of a motor yacht ranges from 45 feet to 80 plus feet. It has powerful diesel engines and a large fuel storage capacity. The drive systems are usually configured as straight inboards, with very few set up as "V" drive installations.
It usually comes as a traditional vee-hulled craft, ideal for gracious cruising or partying at the dock. Design variations would feature more aft deck space for fishing, private aft cabins, and sunning space on front decks. The hull is usually made of fiberglass, composite, aluminum or a combination of both fiberglass and aluminum.
However, owning a motor yacht is not for every boater. New or used motor yachts would cost a fortune that not all boat lovers can afford. The high purchase price, cost of maintenance and large operation costs are definite barriers to ordinary mortals to own a motor yacht.
