Yachting depicts images of leisure and luxury but yacht employment, or working as a yacht crew, may not necessarily paint the same picture. True, there are a lot of rewarding experiences and opportunities that await anyone who wants to work as a yacht crew, but the job is not all glamour. In fact, it is a very challenging and taxing job that not too many people can endure. Once you get the hang of working in a yacht, though, it seems hard to leave the life behind and many have pursued it not only as their lifetime career but also as their lifetime passion. So what is yacht employment really like? How is working in a yacht different from ordinary day jobs? For starters, the main attraction for yacht jobs is the high salary. Yacht crews often get paid above industry standards mainly because it is not so easy to attract workers to be away from their family and loved ones for a long time to serve the needs of other people. Compared to working for cruise ships, you get paid at least two times more when you work on yachts. You also have more opportunities to earn extra because owners or yacht guests would normally give a huge tip. Aside from the good remuneration, yacht employment also offers other benefits such as all-paid living expenses with clothing and uniform. This is the reason why a lot of the workers get to save a lot of money for themselves and their families because they do not have to pay for utility bills and their personal effects. No wonder, yacht crews can afford to buy their own houses, or even their own boats, in no time. Yacht employees get six weeks or more annual paid leave, travel opportunities to many beautiful and exotic destinations around the world. At one time, they could be basking in the sun and mesmerizing over the coves and cays aboard a Caribbean cruiser. At another time, they could be under the deep blue ocean of the Bahamas as they accompany yacht guests in marveling rich underwater beauty of corals and rare marine species. They get to visit world class ports, expensive and unique restaurants, eat the best lobsters and crabs in the world, and earn at the same time. Working on yachts also provides lots of opportunities to meet many interesting and highly-placed people such as celebrities, sports superstars, and government officials, CEOs, among others. Good if you are fond of taking pictures and displaying them in your house as mementoes of your travel experiences. Compared to cruise ships, there are much fewer guests to take care of in yachts so the working atmosphere is more relaxed. Yacht crews also get to experience what yacht guests are enjoying. These include activities such as water skiing, wake boarding, win surfing, jet skis, scuba diving, paragliding, among others. Indeed, there are a lot of good points about working on yachts. But you must love the sun, sea, and travel to really enjoy it. Most importantly, you must be a service-oriented person because yacht employment is all about serving and meeting the needs of yacht guests. |
