The lifestyle that comes with a yacht job is a lifestyle characterized with glamour, adventure, luxury and fun. It is pictured with beautiful sunsets, exotic places, underwater marine wonder, and hearty meals of fresh fish and fruits. These are just some of the perks that a yacht job brings aside from the attractive salary that yacht crews normally get.

But a yacht job also means seasickness, cuts and bruises along the way, and many days and nights away from family and loved ones. It means being up and ready to serve guests almost 24 hours a day for the entire duration of the trip. A yacht job also means being prepared to meet dangers in the form of storms, strong winds and waves, and other uncertainties that sailing in open waters may bring.

But for some people, the call of the sea is irresistible. Once they have heeded the call for the first time, it is easier to say yes the second time. Then they realize despite the difficulties and challenges of a yacht job, it is something that they want to do not only for the money but also because they have grown to love it.

The crew on large luxury yachts—yachts at least 100 feet in length—include a captain, engineer, chef, chambermaids, stewards—even nannies and butlers.
People who have had experience in crewing a yacht would generally agree that working on yachts is a wonderful experience. However, they also warn that it should not be over glamorized. They advise that anyone enlisting for a yacht job must first assess the negative points of working on a yacht because it is a full-time career. It is not so easy to just don’t show up the next day for work when you suddenly realize that you do not like your job…especially if you are in the middle of the sea.

Periodic performance evaluations and pay increases are standard in yacht employment. Promotion also comes as a natural process in yacht jobs. Many crews have started as simple deckhands but have gone up the ladder by beefing up their qualifications and building up their years of experience. Of course, with every promotion comes higher pay.

In fact, those who are prudent with their earnings can easily save money for investments in real estate properties, stocks, insurance plans, or as seed money for other business.

In addition to salary, yacht crews enjoy free food, transportation, uniforms, and other on board expenses such as laundry, soap, linens. They also get vacation and time off depending on the vessel's schedule. It is customary to have several days per month off to handle personal affairs and a minimum of two weeks annual vacation. Yacht crews are also provided health insurance benefits.

The opportunity to travel to many different places and experience many things that ordinary people only dream about is a yacht job’s most obvious reward.

Missing family and loved ones is compensated by the company of other crew members. Many yacht crew members often become close friends because of constant companionship. Some even find their lifetime partners while working on board a yacht.

Yacht-Port.com’s jobs section for free classifieds is for individuals who already have previous crew experience but want to further build up their career in crewing a yacht. It also for people who want to explore a career in yachting for the first time.
