The company was founded in 1982 by chief executive officer Jimmy Cheng. Customers of Symbol yachts are welcome to put their inputs in the entire construction process of the yacht. They can choose the wood color, decide on the cabinet design and where to place them, pick the wall coverings and counter-tops; and have the say with which appliances to install inside the yacht. Symbol designers will help customers coordinate and personalize their yacht.
